A Country Preacher
I serve as the Vice President for Student Services and Communications as well as Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Truth be known, I am a third generation Southern Baptist country preacher. I grew up in a small South Carolina town called Honea Path. Living in the country was great. Fishing, hunting, mud riding, horses, and sports took up most of my time. For some reason, God continued to lead this country boy to further education. I guess I really needed it. By the grace of God, I am now a country preacher who holds a PhD (and it doesn’t mean post hole digger although I have done my share of that too). I am blessed to have the opportunity to teach Systematic Theology, Baptist History, and the Christian Home. My favorite thing to do is preach so if you ever find yourself in need of a preacher, please let me know.
A Family Man
I love spending time with my family. I have been married to my wife Joy for 10 years now. We met in seminary. She holds a Master of Divinity degree and is completing a PhD in Systematic Theology focusing on Women’s Studies. She is currently writing her dissertation on Titus 2:1-10. She plans to continue with the greatest job in the world…a stay at home wife and mom. I am proud of her because she is the best mother and wife in the world. God has truly blessed me with a person who loves Jesus more than me, shares my desire to see the world know Christ, and spends every moment educating our daughter in the way of the Lord. She is a Proverbs 31 woman. She’s probably smarter than I am too but don’t tell her that I told you so. If you want to keep up with us, then friend request me on Facebook. I can’t forget about my two dogs. Shadow and Princess. We treat them like children and the German Shepherd is my constant companion.
An Adoptive Father
This is Rachel. God blessed us by allowing us to adopt her. She is an absolute delight, and as you can tell from the shirt, she loves horses. Joy and I plan to adopt again in the future and hope that everyone will consider adoption. I have also written an article about adoption where I describe why I believe it is at the heart of the Gospel. You can also view some other photos of our family.
A Crazy Guy
Some people think I am crazy, but I really just like to have fun. Whether its riding a horse, a mechanical bull, jumping out of an airplane, practicing Karate, diving down to 100 feet deep in the ocean, playing intramural football or shooting hoops, the bottom line for me is to live life to its fullest and have fun doing it while winning the world for Jesus Christ.
